Informations taken this Eighth day of
Decr. 1784 at the Parish of St. John the Evangelist .
within the Liberty of Westmr . in the County of
Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of Mary King< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty & County.

William Smith< no role > of Vine Street in the Parish of
St. John the Evangelist Westmr. Lighterman on his
Oath Saith, That having been out Yesterday on B [..]
he returned to his own Door a little before Six o'Clock
in the Evening and found Rachel < no role > his wife knocking
at the Door, Says that he heard Mary King< no role > the
Deced (who was his Lodger on the Second Floor)
Answer, saying, I am coming, and Dept. heard
her come down Stairs, and when Deced was
near the bottom of the Stairs Dept. heard her
fall heavily, and never heard her speak
afterwards, and apprehending the Deced to be
hurt or Dead, and the Street Door being fastened
Dept. brake the Window and put a Boy through
who unbarred the Street Door, and Dept. & his
Wife went in, and found the Deced lying at
the bottom of the Stairs with her Head under
her, appearing to be dead, Says that Mr. Lewis
the Surgeon was fetched who said that the
Neck was Discolated, and endeavoured to put
it in but Deced was dead, and Dept. says
that her fall was merely Accidental, No other
person being in the House at that time.
