An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of Saint James
within the Liberty of Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Seventeenth day of September in the twenty third
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas
Prickard
< no role > , Gentleman, Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of a new born Female Child then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of

chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Female Child came to
h er Death, do upon their Oath say That on the Fifteenth day of September in the Year
aforesaid at the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County, aforesaid a certain Woman to
the Jurors aforesaid unknown did bear, and bring forth the said Female Child alive And
that the said Woman unknown not having the fear of God before her Eyes but being moved
and seduced by the Instigation of the Devil and wicked by devising and intending to Kill and
Murder the said Female Child on the Day and in the Year aforesaid with Force and Arms at the
Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County aforesaid in and upon the said Female Child then
and there being alive and in the Peace of God and our said Lord the King then and there being
feloniously wilfully and of her Malice fore thought did make an Assault, And that the said Woman
unknown then and there feloniously wilfully and of her Malice fore thought (with Intent and
Design that the said Female Child might bleed to Death) did refuse neglect and omit to tye
and cause to be tyed the Navel String of the said Female Child By Means whereof the said
Female Child did then and there violently bleed through the said Navel String of the said
Female Child And the said Female Child of the great Effusion and Loss of Blood through the said
Navel String did then and there languish and languishing did live on which same Day
and Year last mentioned the said Female Child at the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty
and County aforesaid by reason of the great Effusion and Loss of Blood aforesaid did die. And so
the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Woman unknown
her the said Female Child in Manner and Form aforesaid feloniously wilfully and of her
Malice fore thought did Kill and Murder against the Peace of our said Lord the King his
Crown and Dignity In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said

Fellows, in their presence have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day
Year and Place abovementioned
