Informations taken this Twenty
eighth day of February [..] 1783 at Tothill
Fields Bridewell in the Parish of
St. Martin in the Fields within the
Liberty of Westmr. in the County of
Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of John Grocock< no role > a Prisoner lying
dead in the said Prison.

William Stokes< no role > a Prisoner in Tothill Fields
Bridewell on his Oath saith That John Grocock< no role >
the Deced was brought to Tothill Fields Bridewell
as a Vagrant on the Twenty sixth day of February last [..]
Says that the Deced then appeared to be very
weak and poorly, having his Right Jaw
very Raw and Red, and appeared to be
eaten into and Deced said that it was
a Cancer which he had had a good while,
Says that Dept. slept in the savice Ward
with Deced, and assisted Deced when he
wanted, Says that he was last Night in
the same Ward with Deced, and Covered him
That he found the Deced grew worse in
the Morning, was afterwards Speechless
and died this day about Ten o'Clock
Says that the Deced had his Allowance
from the Grovernor but could not Eat the
Bread, Says that no Person used the
Deced ill in said Prison, and believes
that the Deced died of the Cancer.

Thomas Purdue< no role > of Strutton Ground Surgeon
& Apothecary on his Oath saith That he saw the
Deced this Morning in Tothill Fields Bridewell
ordered him som Wine and Water but thought
the Deced was dying, and Deced died soon
after, Says that he Examined the Deced since
found that he had a Cancer on the Right side
of his Head which had Eaten up his Right
