Informations taken this Thirteenth
day of September 1779 at the Parish of
St. George Hanr. Square within the
Liberty of Westmr. in the County of Midsex
upon an Inquisition touching the
death of William Hankey< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty & County

William Badger< no role > of Orange Street in the
Parish of St. James Westmr. Silver Carter
on his Oath saith That he was this after-
noon between four and five o'Clock
upon Chelsea Bridge in the Parish of
St. George Hanover Square , and saw a
Young Man standing upon a Wooden
Machine by the Bridge used to clear
the Mud out of the River, Says that
the Deced shipped off the Machine
into the River there up to his Waste
and got hold of the Machine, but soon
after shipped down over his Head into
the River and came up several times
and got hold of a Young Man who
was swimming in the River, and got
his hands around the Young Man's Neck,
which made the Young Man turn upon
his Back and then loosened the Deced's
Hands and got clear of the Deced who
then Sunk and was Drowned in the
Water there, and Dept. says that the Deced.
Death was merely Accidental.
