Informations taken this Seventh day
of April 1778 at the parish of St. Martin in
the Fields within the Liberty of Westmr . in
the County of Middlesex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Sarah Ward< no role > lying
dead in the said Parish Liberty & County.

Elizabeth< no role > the wife of Francis Barron< no role > of the Strand in
the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields Brazier
on her Oath saith That Sarah Wall< no role > the Deced had
lived Servant with Dept. about a Month,
That the Deced behaved well and was a good
Servant at first, but for the last week has
been frequently in Liquor, Says that yesterday
a little after Twelve o'Clock at Noon Deced fetched
this Depts. Child from School & then appeared
to be very much in Liquor Says that the
Deced went up Stairs to clean out the
Parlour, Says that she went up Stairs
and finding the Parlour not cleaned, Dept.
went into Deced's Bedroom and there by
the Bedside saw the Deced Kneeling as Dept.
thought, her Back being towards this Dept.
Says that she went up to Deced, touched her
upon the Shoulder, and then saw a silk Handkerchief
around the Deced's Nect and fastened to an
Iron Brace supporting the Tester, Says that
She immediately went down Stairs. and sent
two of the Mear in the Shop to Deced, who soon
returned & said that she was dead, and Dept.
believes that the Deced Hanged herself, Says
that the Deced yesterday when she went for
the Child looked wild Says that sheintendedthereafter
for some days to turn Deced away, that the Deced was
much distressed thereat, having no Money, and
said several times if she was discharged that she
would throw herself into the Thames.
