Informations taken this Sixteenth day of May
1772 at the Parish of St. James within the Liberty
of Westmr . in the County of Midsex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Robert Lovell< no role > lying dead in
the said Parish Liberty and County.

Richard Miller< no role > Servant to the Dutchess of St. Albans in
St James' s Place in the Parish of St. James Westmr . in the
Capacity of Under Butler, on his Oath saith, That Robert
Lovell
< no role > the Deced who had been Coachman to her Grace was
in the Family, Says that the Deced usually went to Bed
about Nine o'Clock and lay in a Room by himself in
the Fore part of the House, Says that he came Down Stairs
this Morning about a Quarter before Seven o'Clock, and
soon after went into the Back Area to fill his Decanters with
Water at the Pump, when he first saw the Deceds.
Night Cap lying upon the Ground near the Pump, and
afterwards observed the Deced hanging by a Cord which
was fixed with a removing Noose around the Deced's Nick,
and first over a piece of Brick work in the Area and
fastened to an Iron Staple in the Door past of the
Area Door, Says that he immediately went up Stairs
and acquainted Mr. Read the Butler there with who order'd
Dept. to Cut the Cord, upon which Dept. went again to
the Deced and with a Knife Cut the Cord and Deced
fell down, Says that he Slacker'd the Cord about.
the Deced Neck in the presence of Christopher Oglesby< no role > the
Footman, and felt the Deced's Hand which was Cold
and Deced appeared to Dept. to have been Deced some
time, and Dept. believes that he Hanged himself, And
Says that the Deced appeared to be beers low Spirited.

Stephen Read< no role > Butler to the Dutchess of St. Albans on
his Oath saith, That the Deced Robert Lovell< no role > has lived
with her Grace as Coachman about five Years, Says
that he Drove her Grace on Night Last Winter where
