in the County of Midsex. }


Informations taken this 23d. day of March
1772 at the Parish of St. Margaret Westmr in the
County of Midsex upon an Inquisition touching the death
of John Payton< no role > an Infant lying dead in the said
Parish Liberty and County.

Elizabeth< no role > the Wife of Richard Payton< no role > of Abington Buildings
in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist Westmr. Mother to the
Deced, on her Oath saith That on the 26th. day of February
last she went into Mr. Bradley's Yard to fetch a pail
of water, leaving the Deced (an Infant about three Years
of age) in herHousewith the Door open & on [..] return found his Cloaths on Fire and Mr.
Bradley's Boy Thomas endeavouring to put out the
Fire, Says that she stripped off the Cloaths and found
the Deced's Back part, & Privy Parts very much burnt, Says that the
Deced was [..] with Sweet Oil, and that she immediately
after brought him to the westmr. Hospital where he
languished until the 22d. day of March instant, and then
died in said Hospital.

Thomas Turner< no role > Servant to Mr. Bradley on his
Oath Saith, That on Wednesday, the 26th of February
last he was in Mr. Bradley's Yard where he heard the Deced
cry. in Mr. Payton's House, upon which he went towards
him and stopped a little under the Gateway and on hearing
him cry again he went to the Deced and found the
back part of his Cloaths on Fire, which he endeavoured
to put out, Says that the Door was open and that
the Deced's Mother soon came there and stripped off
the Cloaths, Says that there was very little Fire in
the Grate at that time, and no Person in the Room
with the Deced when Dept. went in and believes
that the Deced's Cloths accidentally took Fire
