An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, at The Parish of St. Margaret
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Third day of December in the Twelfth Year
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain,
France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Prickard< no role > , Gentleman,
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on View of the Body of
John Dixon< no role > and Infant then and there lying dead, upon the oath of George
Friswell
< no role > , John Storr< no role > , Thomas Nicholson< no role > , John Burgess< no role > , Richard Haynes< no role >
John Brooks< no role > , Richard Harbert, Robert Bigby< no role > , Thomas Scot< no role > , John Hughes< no role > ,
William Gilleroy< no role > , Joseph Commings< no role > , John Mc. Coy< no role > , John Lane< no role > , John Veller< no role >
and John Jennings< no role > good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said John Dixon< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say That the said John Dixon< no role > the Infant, of the
Age of three Years, on the Second day of December in the Year aforesaid
being alone in the Room or Apartment of Mary Williamson< no role > in the
dwelling House of John Gardiner< no role > , situate in Tothill Street in the Parish
Liberty and County aforesaid, and then and there standing near the
Fireside, It so happened that the Linnen Gown which he the said John
Dixon
< no role > then and there had on his Body, Accidentally Casually and by
Misfortune, took Fire, by Reason whereof and from the Smoke and Flames
arising from the said Fire, he the said John Dixon< no role > was then and there
much Burnt in the Thighs Back and Belly, of which said Burning
he the said John Dixon< no role > , at the Parish Liberty and County aforesaid
until the Third day of December in the same Year, languishing did
live, and thereof then and there died. And so the Jurors aforesaid
upon their Oath aforesaid do say, that the said John Dixon< no role > in Manner
and by the Means aforesaid, Accidentally Casually and by Misfortune
came to his Death, and not otherwise. In Witness whereof as
well the said Coroner, as the said George Friswell< no role > Foreman of the said
Jurors on the behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows, in their
presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day
Year and Place first above written
