Informations taken this First day of
March 1768 at the Parish of St. James within
the Liberty of Westmr . in the County of Middlesex
on an Inquisition touching the Death of a new
born Male Child lying dead in the said Parish
Liberty and County.

Thomas Edge< no role > of the Sign of the Fox in Brewer Street
Victualler on his Oath Saith, That yesterday Morning
about Nine o'Clock Depr. threw several Pails of Water
into his Necessary house in order to wash the Soil away
out of the Privy, Says that finding the Soil did not
readily go off, he poked into the Privy with a Fork
and run the fork into a Banbox, Says that in Shirring
further he likewise run the Fork into a Stocking, and
that in pulling he Stocking out of the Privy he saw a
Child Drop out of it, Says that he was fightened and told
some people in his Taproom what he had seen who went
to the Privy, Says that in a few Minutes he returned
to the Privy and saw the Male Child lying on the Bourd
with some of the Soil about it, Says that one of the Mention
Dept. that he had taken the Child out of the Vault, Say,
the the Child appeared then to be very fresh, but that he
observed no marks of Voilence upon it.

Ann Stredder< no role > the Wife of John Stredder< no role > of Smith's Court
in the Parish of St. James Westmr . Brasier on her Oath Saith
That yesterday Morning Dept. on hearing a Noice went
into Mr. Edde's House and being told that a Child was in
his Vault, she looked down and saw the Child in the Vault
in the Soil, Says tha a Man tha stood there with a pair
of Tongs took the Child out of the Vault and laid it upon
a Bench, Says that she there Examined the Child, which
was a Male, and was very fresh and Plump & new born
and that no marks of Violence appeared upon him, Says
that the Child Appeared to become to Maturity, that the
Nowel String of the Child wasted wih a piece of Clark String or
Worsted and that she is of opinion that the child was
born alive.
