Informations taken this Second day of January
1767 at the Parish of St. Margaret within the City
& Liberty of Westmr. in the County of Middlesex on an
Inquisition touching the Death of Edward Allen< no role >
lying dead in the said Parish City Liberty & County

John Bampton< no role > a Carpenter , on his Oath saith, That he [..]
at work yesterday with Edwd. Allen< no role > the Deced (who was likewise
Carpenter) and other Persons on a New Built House in Great George
Street in the Parish of St. Margaret Westmr. Says that the Deced
having a very old Shoe on Said he would not go to his Lodging
at Horsley down that night but would lye on some Shavings in the back part of
the Buildings where this Dept. had lain some Rights before, Says
that about a quarter of an hour after nine o'Clock last Night
this Dept. had prepared the Shavings for himself and the Deced
to lye on when the Deced went out of the Room [..] Saying that he was
not lye there but would go home and immediately fall down Stairs Says that it was quite
they having no Candle, When the Man who has thereon of the
House come there with a Light, Dept found he Deced lying upon the
Stairs, almost Double, and his Heels upwards, Says that the Deced
was unable to speak, but Dept observed no wound upon him
Says that he moved his Legs downwards, and endeavoured to
lift up the Deced but could not he being helpless Says that in
about an hour after Dept. went to lye down, Says that about
half an hour after Seven o'Clock this Morning, this Dept. found
the Deced lying dead upon the Stairs, upon which he called some
of the Workmen there, Says that there was no Person with the
Deced and this Dept. in the park part of the House when Deced fell
down Stairs, and that he believes the fall was Accidental.
