An Inquisition Indented taken for Our Sovereign Lord
the King at the Parish of Saint Jameswithin the Liberty of the Dean and Chapel
of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter Westminster in the County of Middlesex , the Fifth
day of Mayin the Sixthyear of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George
the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith
and so Forth before Thomas Prickard< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for
the said City and Liberty, On View of the Body of Elizabeth Thompson< no role > then and there lying Dead, upon
the Oath of Thomas Tovey< no role > , James Cox< no role > , Benjamin Cole< no role > , David Rees< no role > , John Read< no role > , Samuel Tilt< no role > , George Malkin< no role >

< no role > , Bernard Charlton< no role > , and John Hardie< no role > , good and lawfull Men of the said Liberty duly
chosen, who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King
when, how and by what Means the said Elizabeth Thompson< no role > came to her Death, do upon
their Oath say, That John Lewis< no role > late ofthe Parish of Hampstead in the County
aforesaid Laborer, on the Sixteenth day of April in the Year aforesaid, in the Face and Arons at the said Parish of Hampstead
in the County aforesaid, in and upon the said Elizabeth Thompson< no role > , in the Peace of God and of our said
Lord the King then and there being, Feloniously did make an Assault, And that the said John Lewis< no role >
with a certain Knife made of Iron and Steel, which he the said John Lewis< no role > then and there had and held
is his Hand, her the said Elizabeth Thomson< no role > , in and upon the back of the left Hand of her the said Elizabeth

< no role > then and there Feloniously did strike and stab, And that the said John Lewis< no role > , with the Knife
aforesaid, did then and there given unto her the said Elizabeth Thompson< no role > in and upon the back of the
said left Hand of her the said Elizabeth Thompson< no role > one mortal Wound, of which said mortal Wound she the said
Elizabeth Thompson< no role > at the Parish aforesaid, and also at the said Parish of St. James within the Liberty and
County aforesaid, from said Sixteenth day of April in the Year aforesaid until the Fifth day of May in
the same Year, did languish and languishing did live, on which said Fifth day of May in the Year aforesaid
at the said Parish of St. James within the Liberty and County aforesaid, she the said Elizabeth
Thompson
< no role > , of the Mortal Wound aforesaid, did die. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their
Oath aforesaid, do say, that the said John Lewis< no role > , her the said Elizabeth Thompson< no role > , in Manner and
by the Means aforesaid, Feloniously did Kill and Slay, against the Peace of our said Lord the King
his Crown and Dignity, And that the said John Lewis< no role > at the time of the doing and committing of the
Felony and Manslaughter aforesaid, or at any time since had no Goods or Chattels Lands or Tenements
within the said County, or elsewhere, to the Knowledge or Notice of the said Jurors. In Witness where of as
well the said Coroner, as the said Thomas Tovey< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and
the rest of his said Fellows, in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals, the
Day Year and Place first above written.
