in the County of Middlesex }
to Wit.

An Inquisition Indented taken for Our Sovereign Lord
the King at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter
of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter Westminster in the County of Middlesex , the Eighth
Day of Februaryin the Fifth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Saith
and so forth before Thomas Prichard< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for
the said City and Liberty on View of the Body of Thomas Pepper< no role > then and there lying Dead
upon the Oath of John Stevens< no role > , Henry Sheat< no role > , William Sheat< no role > , Thomas Owen< no role > , Edward Marsh< no role > , George Wheeler< no role > ,
Samuel Roome< no role > , Thomas Wild< no role > , John Chant< no role > , George Martin< no role > , William Singler< no role > , Thomas Purney< no role > ,
Morris Rice< no role > , and James Drinkwater< no role > , good and lawfull Men of the said Liberty duly charge
who being then and there duly Sworn and Charged to inquire for our said Lord the King [..]
how, and by what Means the said Thomas Pepper< no role > came to his Death, do upon their
Oath say, That the said Thomas Pepper< no role > , not being of sound Mind Memory and Understanding
but lunatick and distracted, on the Seventh day of February in the Year aforesaid, at the Parish
aforesaid within the Liberty and County aforesaid, one End of a certain piece of small Cord,
unto a Nail drove unto the Wainscot in the Lodging Room or Apartment of the said Thomas Pepper< no role >
in the Dwelling House of James Martin< no role > , situate and being in Upper Mount Street , within the said
Parish Liberty and County and the other End thereof about his own Neck, did fix tie, and
fasten, and therewith did then and there hang, suffocate and strangle himself, of which said
Hanging, Suffocation, and Strangling, he the said Thomas Pepper< no role > then and there died. And so the
Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say, that the said Thomas Pepper< no role > , not being of sound
Mind, Memory, and Understanding, but lunatick and distracted is Manner and by the
Means aforesaid did kill himself. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said
John Stevens< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the rest of his said Fellows
in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals, the Day Year and
Place first above written
