Informations taken this thirtieth day of
November 1764 at the Parish of St. James Within the
Liberty of Westmr. in the County of Middlesex on an
Inquisition taken on View of the Body of Richard
Gotshall lying Dead in the said Parish Liberty & County

John Woodroft< no role > Victualler at the Kings Anns in Catherine
wheel Yard in the Parish of St James on his Oath saith That
Richard Gotshall< no role > the Deced has lodged with Deponent about
two months last past. Says that Mary Hall< no role > the Dept. Servant
went up Stairs between three and four o Clock yesterday
Afternoon to make the Deced's Bed, Says that she soon
came down again and informed Dept. that the Deced's
Room Door was locked and that the Key was on the mind
of the Door, Depont. says that he immediately went up Sten
and called to Deced, and having no answer Dept. With he
foot forced a Pannel out of the Door in the Presence of
Mr. day, says that upon his going into the Room he discover
Deced hanging by a small Cord which was round the Deced's
Neck, and fastened over a Spit rack by the use od Chairman Says that he called to
Mr. Day to bring a Knife which he did and Dept. immediately
ately cut the Cord by which the Deced being and deced was
laid upon the Floor, says that a Surgeon was fetched who
endeavoured to Bleed the Deced, but he bled very little, an
the Surgeon then declared that Deced was Dead, Says that
the Deced has been Melancholy and low Spiritted for same
time last past, that he laid in Bed for a fortnight and
during that time took very little Nourishment That he
sometimes looked very wild and Dept. believes from his General [..] that he
was disordered in his Sences.
