This Indenture, made the Eleaventh day of July in the Fourth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the Grace of God, of Great Britain,
France, and Ireland, King Defender of the Faith, Etc. Annoq; Dom. 1 718 Witnesseth, That Mr. Avery< no role >
Vokins and Mr. Richard Nurse Church-Wardens of the Parish of
St. Margaret, Westminster , in the County of Middlesex , and Mr. Sunon Chapman< no role > , John Gleniston< no role > Richard Scarlet< no role >
and Abel Roper< no role > Overseers of the Poor of the
same Parish, by and with the Consent of Two of his Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the Peace of the said County (whereof
one is of the Quorum) whose Names are hereunto set, have put and placed, and by these Presents do put and place Richard
Merrideth a poor Child of the said Parish, aged about Etc Years, Apprentice to John
Conyer of the parish of St. Giles's in the Fields in the County of Middx Chimney Sweeper with h im to dwell and serve
from the Day of the Date of these Presents, until the said Apprentice shall accomplish h is Age of Four and Twenty
Yearsaccording to the Statute in that Case made and provided. During all which Term, the said
Apprentice h is said M aster faithfully shall serve in all lawful Businesses, according to h is Power, and Ability, and
honestly and obediently, in all things, demean and behave herself towards h is said M aster and all h is du-
ring the said Term. And the said M aster for h im self, h is Executors and Administrators, doth Covenant and Agree,
to and with the said Church-Wardens and Overseers, and ever of them, their and every of their Executors and Administrators,
and their and every of their Successors, for the time being by these Presents, That the said John Conyer< no role >
the said Apprentice in the Art or Mistery of a Chimney Sweeper shall teach and instruct, or
cause to be taught and instructed; And shall and will, during all the Term aforesaid, find, provide, and allow unto the said Ap-
prentice , sufficient Meat, Drink, Apparel, Lodging, Washing and all other Things necessary and fit for an Apprentice. And
also shall and will so provide for the said Apprentice that he be not any way a Charge to the said Parish of St. Margaret, or Parishion-
ers of the same; but of and from all Charge shall and will save the said Parish, and Parishioners, harmless and indemnified,
during the said Term: And at the End of the said Term shall and will provide, and deliver unto the said Apprentice double Ap-
parel of all sorts, (that is to say) a new Suit for the Holy-days, and another for the Working-day. In Witness whereof the
Parties abovesaid, to these present Indentures interchangeably have put their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year above-written.
