<p n="2966">Courts and Committees held in such Hospitals<lb></lb>
respectively.</p>
<p n="2967">That originally the Persons elected<lb></lb>
Governors of the said Hospitals respectively when<lb></lb>
their estates and Revenues were inconsiderable<lb></lb>
and benefactions and bequests small were but few<lb></lb>
and Chiefly confined to the City of London But<lb></lb>
afterwards and for a great number of Years past<lb></lb>
it being found by experience That increasing the<lb></lb>
number of Governors and extending the nominations<lb></lb>
beyond the Walls of the City and to fit Persons tho' not<lb></lb>
free of the said City was exceedingly Advantageous<lb></lb>
to the respective Charities such Nominations have<lb></lb>
been made of Noblemen Gentlemen and other<lb></lb>
respectable Persons residing in other parts as well<lb></lb>
as in the said City of London and not free of the said<lb></lb>
City by which means the aforesaid several Charities<lb></lb>
have been very greatly increased and benefited and<lb></lb>
great care hath always been and<del>h</del>
is now taken<lb></lb>
that persons of Character and Ability likely to<lb></lb>
become Benefactors to the said respective Charities<lb></lb>
either by Donations in their lives time or by<lb></lb>
Legacies on their deceases should be nominated<lb></lb>
and appointed Governors.</p>

said Hospitals and ever since separate and<lb></lb>
distinct Seals have been made and used Vizt..<lb></lb>
One for the Estates and concerns of the Mayor<lb></lb>
Commonalty and Citizens of the<lb></lb>
City of London in their Corporate Capacity and<lb></lb>
the other for the Estates and concerns of the said<lb></lb>
Hospitals in the names or by the descriptions<lb></lb>
of the Mayor and Commonalty and</p>
