of the Quorum, and both residing next unto the Limits
of the Parish Church within the Parish of Saint Leonard
Shoreditch
in the Said County of Middlesex
made the Eighth Day of March One
thousand seven hundred and ninety
Eight concerning a Male
Bastard Child, lately born in the Work house of the Parish
of Saint Leonard Shoreditch
aforesaid, of the Body of

of the said

WHEREAS is hath appeared unto us the said Justices, as well upon the Com-
plaint of the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
St. Leonard Shoreditch
as upon the Oath of the said Sarah Overs< no role >
that she the said Sarah Overs< no role >
on the 28th Day of
January now last past, was delivered of a MaleBastard Child,in the
Workhouse of [..] the said Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch
in the said
County and that the said Male Bastard Child is [..] chargeable
to the said parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch
and further, that one John Clarke< no role >
of Long Lane
Southwark
in [..] the County of Surrey
[..] Hide Salesman did beget the said
Bastard Child on the Body of her the said Sarah Overs< no role >
and Whereas the
said John Clark< no role >
hath appeared before us in pursuance of our
Summons for the purpose but hath not not shewed any Sufficient
Cause [..] he the said John Clark< no role >
shall not be adjudged the
reputed Father of the said Bastard Child
We therefore, upon Examination of the Cause and Circumstance of the Premises, as
well upon the Oath of the said Sarah Overs< no role >
as otherwise, do hereby
adjudge him the said John Clark< no role >
to be the reputed Father of the
said Bastard Child.
And thereupon we do order, as well for the better Relief of the said Parish of St.
Leonard Shoreditch
as for the Sustentation and Relief of the said Bastard Child, that
the said John Clark< no role >
shall and do forthwith, upon Notice of this our Order,
pay or cause to be paid to the said Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch
or to some or one of them, the sum of Two Pounds
for and towards the Lying-in of the said Sarah Overs< no role >
and the Main-
tenance of the said Bastard Child, to the Time of making this our Order
And we do also hereby further order, that the said John Clark< no role >
shall likewise
Pay, or cause to be paid, to the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of St. Leonard Shoreditch
for the Time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of
three Shillings, Weekly and every Week, from the present Time, for and towards the
Keeping, Sustentation, and Maintenace of the said Bastard Child, for and during
so long Time as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of St. Leonard
Shoreditch
And we do further order, that the said Sarah Overs< no role >
shall also pay
or cause to be paid to the said Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish
of St. Leonard Shoreditch
for the said Time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of
Six pence Weekly and every Week, so long as the said Bastard Child
shall be chargeable to the said Parish of St. Leonard Shoreditch
in case she shall not nurse
and take care of the said Child herself.
