Case
The Father of the Pauper
was settled in the Parish of Deftford
in the County of
Kent
& died about 5 or 6 Years ago
After the Death of the Father the parish Officers of Deptford
bound the Pauper
out
an Apprentice
to her Annt who then lived in Old Gravel Lane Shadwell
and the continued
with her there about two YearsThe Aunt then went into Service and placed the
Pauper with one Mr. Lelby of Nemlock street
in the Respondents parish and agreed to
give her 3s/Pr. Week for her Board Washing & Lodging The Aunt made Default in
Payment & then Mrs. Selby thought proper to seek for a Place for the Pauper in Order to
get did of her and about October last Mrs. Selby's Mother being nursing a Mrs. Paine
Wife of Mr Paine who then lived in Dean Street Fetter Lane
recommended the Pauper
to Mr. Paine who agreed to take & pay her a shilling a Weekthe Give lived
with the pauper served him about a Month and then went back to Mrs. Selby
The Girl received the whole of then Wages except about 4s/ which Mrs. Selby received
after who quitted the Service
The Pauper was passed on the Examination of her Sister who more that she lived
with Mr. Paine with the Consent of the Mistress, her Aunt for 16 or 20 Weeks in the Parish
of Clerkenwell
She most undoubteably never lived 40 Days in Clerkenwell
therefore
she cannot have ganied any Settlement there
Neither the pauper or Pavis her late Master knows anything of her aunt & Mistress
consenting to her being in his Service nor did Pain ever hear of her being are Apprentice
until after she had guilted his Service
To prove that she lived with Mr. Paine 18 or 20 Weeks & a Month
of the Time only in Clerkenwell
