To the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of St. James , at Clerkenwell , in the County of
Middlesex ; and to the Church-wardens and Overseers of
the Poor of the Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields
in the said County and to each and every of them.

Upon the Complaint of the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor
of the Parish of St. James , Clerkenwell , aforesaid, in the said County of
Middlesex , unto us whose Names are hereunto set, and Seals affixed, being two
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Middlesex ,
and one of us of the Quorum, that Charles Downes< no role > & Sarah< no role >
his Wife & their Child namely Sarah< no role > aged
about Thirteen Years have
come to inhabit in the said Parish of
St. James , at Clerkenwell , not having gained a legal Settlement there, and that
the said Charles Downes Sarah his Wife & Sarah
their Child are
now chargeable to the said Parish of St. James ,in at Clerkenwell . We the said
Justices, upon due Proof made thereof upon Oath, as otherwise, and likewise
upon due Consideration had of the Premises, do adjudge the same to be true;
and we do likewise adjudge, that the lawful Settlement of the said Charles Downes
Sarah his Wife & Sarah their Child is in the said
Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields in the said County of
Middlesex We do therefore require you, the said Church-
wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of St. James , at Clerken-
well, or some or one of you, to convey the said Charles Downes Sarah his
Wife & Sarah their Child from and out of your said Parish of St. James , at Clerkenwell , to the said Parish
of Saint Martin in the Fields and them to deliver to
the Church-wardens and Overseers of the Poor there, or to some or one of them,
together with this our Order, or a true Copy thereof, at the same Time shewing
to them the Original; and we do also hereby require you, the said Church-
wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields
to receive and provide for them according to Law. Given under
our Hands and Seals, the 27th. Day of September in the
Year of our Lord, 178 3.
