Whereas it appears unto us Robert Bateman< no role > and Roger Smith< no role > Esqrs. two of her
Majties. Justices of the Peace for the County of Middx (Quor un) resideing nearest
unto the Parish Church of the Parish of St. Dunstan Stepney als Stebunheath in
the said County by the Complaint of the Churchwarden and Overseers of the poor
of the Hamlett of Mile End old Towne in the Parish and County aforesaid, that
about five Yeares Since Thomas in Hankinson Widw. was Delivered in the sd. Hamlett
of Mile End Old Towne of a Female Bastard Child (Since Baptiz'd by the name
of Hannah< no role > ) which hath been, Still is, and is likely to continue a Charge to
the said Hamlett. and whereas A appeareth unto us the said Justices by the
Examination of the said Thomasin Hankinson< no role > taken before us upon Oath
That Thomas Barrs< no role > of the said Hamlett of Mile End Old Towne Barber had
divers times the Carnall knowledge of her body and did beget the said
female Bastard Child, and by divers other proofs and circumstances testified
upon Oath before as that he the said Thomas Barnes< no role > is the only reputed father
of the said Female Bastard Child. We do there pelld judge him the said Thomas
Barnes
< no role > to be the only reputed father of the said female Bastard Child, and
do order him forth with to pay or cause to be paid unto the said Churchwarden
and Overseers of the poor of the said Hamlett of Mile End Old Towne or to some or
one of them the sume of Three pounds of Lawfull money of England, the said Sume
being already paid and Expended for the said Churchwarden for the Nursing and
keeping of the said female Bastard Child, and that he the said Thomas Barnes< no role >
do alsoe pay or cause to be paid weekly and every week from the day of the Date
hereof unto the Churchwarden and Overseers of the poor of the Hamlett of Mile
End Old Towne aforesaid and their Successrs. for the time being or to some or one
of them the Sume of two Shillings P Week of like lawfull money of England
towards the Maintaining and bringing up the said female Bastard Child, and that
he do continue to make the said Weekly payment so long as the said female
Bastard Child Shall be a Charge to the said Hamlett. and lastly we do order him
the said Thomas Barnes< no role > to give Sufficient Security to the said Churchwarden
and Overseers of the poor of the said Hamlett of Mile End old Towne for the due
performance of this Our Order Given under our hands and Seales the Thirtieth
day of May Ano Rin Anne Dei Gra Magne Brittan Etc: Pine Etc. Sexto. Ansqs Dom 1707
