To His Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County
of Middlesex in their General Quarter Session of the Peace at
Hicks Hall in St. John Street on Tuesday the 14th. day of
July 1778 Assembled

The Humble Petition James Smith< no role >
Petty Constable of the Parish of St. Andrew
Holborn in the said County

Sheweth


That Your Petitioners about a week since received
a Summons from Mr. John Wild< no role > High Constable of Holborn
Division ordereing him to attend at Hicks Hall in St. John Street
on Tuesday the 14th. day of July 1778

That Your Petitioner intending obeying the said
Summons but a Gentleman coming into his Shop to buy a
Quantity of Good and having no other person to do the Business
but himself was unavoidably prevented from attending so soon
as he otherwise intended to have done, and that as soon as the
Gentleman departed from your Petitioners Shop Your Petitioner set
out fer Hick Hall and same there about a Quarter of an hour
Past Ten O Clock and was then informed that the Court been
fined him 20s. for not attending sooner

Your Petitioner therefore humbly Prays
Your Worships will be pleased to remit the
said Fine as your Petitioner was so
prevented from attending and Your Petitioner
is very willing if Your Worships shod. so
Order to attend at any future day

And your Petitioner as in duly
bound will ever pray
