This Indenture Witnesseth, That Peter
Kearnan
< no role > son of Thomas Kearnan< no role > of the Parish of Saint James Clerkenwell in the
County of Middlesex Merchant by and with the privity consent and approbation of his
said Father testified by his being a party to and Sealing and delivering these presents
doth put himself Apprentice to George Freeland< no role > of the liberty of the Rolls in the
Parish of Saint Dunstan in the West in the said County of Middlesex Stationer
to learn his Art, and with him (after Manner of an Apprentice) to serve
from the day of the date hereof unto the full End and Term of Seven
[..] years from thence next following, to be fully compleat and ended. During which Term, the said Apprentice his said Master
faithfully shall serve, his Secrets Keep, his lawful Commands every where gladly do. He shall do no Damage
to his said Master, nor see to be done by others, but to his Power shall let or forthwith give Warning to his
said M aster of the same. He shall not waste the Goods of his said M aster nor lend them unlawfully to any
He shall not commit Fornication, nor contract Matrimony within the said Term. He shall not play at Cards, Dice,
Tables, or any other unlawful Games , whereby his said M aster may have any Loss. With his own Goods of others,
during the said Term, without Licence of his said M aster, shall neither buy nor sell. he shall not haunt Taverns or
Playhouses, nor absent himself from his said M aster's Service, Day or Night unlawfully: But in all Things at a faith
ful Apprentice shall behave himself towards his said M aster, and all his during the said Term. AND the said
George Freeland< no role > for and in Consideration of the sum of twenty one pounds to him in hand well and
truly paid by the said Thomas Kearnan< no role > at or before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
his said Apprentice in the Art of a Stationer which he now useth, by the best Means that he
can, shall teach and instruct, or cause to be taught and instructed, finding unto the said Apprentice Sufficient Meat, Drink,
and Lodging, and all other Necessaries during the said Term. (Washing
Wearing Apparel and making and mending thereof and also Physick and advice in case the
said Peter Kearnan< no role > shall at any time during the said Term require the same only Excepted)
And for the true Performance of all and every the said Covenants and Agreements, either of the said Parties bindeth im self unto
the other by these Presents. IN WITNESS whereof, the Parties above named to these Indentures interchangeably have put their
Hands and Seals the twenty Second Day of March in the Seventeenth Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland KING,
Defender of the Faith, Etc. and in the year of our Lord 1777.

THE Indenture, Covenant, Article, or Contract must bear Date the Day it is executed, and what Money or other Thing is given or
contracted for with the Clerk or Apprentice, must be inserted in Words at length; and the Duty paid to the Stamp Office, if in London,
or within the Weekly Bills of Mortality, within one Month after the Execution; and if in the Country, and out of the said Bills of Morta-
lity, within Two Months, to a Distributors of the Stamps; or his Substitute: otherwise the Indenture will be void, the Master or Mistress,
forfeit Fifty Pounds, and another Penalty, and the Apprentice be disabled to follow his Trade, or be made free.
