At a meeting of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the
City & Liberty of Westmr at the Vestry Room of the parish of
St. Margaret Westmr on Wednesday the 16th day of September
1761

It is Ordered that for the preventing the Several Mischeifs
which frequently happen by throwing Squibbs Serpents & other
Fireworks in the publick streets & passage within the said City
& Liberty that the Clause of the Statute of the 9th & 10th year of the reign
of the late King William the 3d be inserted for the better Notification
for all persons to take notice not to Offend against the same
which is as followeth that if any person or persons of what age
Sex degree or Quality soever from & after the the sd 25th day of
March shall make or cause to be made or shall give sell or otter or
offer or expose to Sale any Squibbs Rosketts Serpents or other Fire
Works or any Cases Moulds or other Implements for the making of
any Squibbs Rocketts Serpents or other Fire Works that then every
such person or persons so Offending & being thereof Convicted
before one or more Justice or Justices of the peace of the County
Limit Division Corporation Liberty or Cheif Magistrate of the
place where such Offence shall be Comitted either by the Confession
of the party or parties so Offending or the Oath of two Witnesses
& which Oath the said Justice or Justices of peace or Cheif Magistrate
is & are hereby impowered & required to Administer shall for every
such offence forfeit the Sum of £5 and if any Person or persons
whatsoever from & after the said 25th day of Mark shall permitt
or Suffer any Squibbs Serpents Rosketts or other Fire works to be
Cast thrown or Fired from out of or in his her or their House or
Houses Shops Dwelling lodgings or habitation or from out of or in
any part thereof or place thereto belonging or adjoyning into any
publick street Highway Road or passage or any other House or
place whatsoever that then every such person or persons so as
aforesaid last offending and being thereof as aforesaid Convicted
shall for every such offence forfeit the Sum of 20s the said Several
forfeitures to be levied by Distress & Sale of the Goods & Chattells
of every such offender by Warrant under the hand & Seal of the said
Justice or Justices of the peace or Cheif Magistrate before whom such
Conviction or Convictions shall be as aforesaid made the one half of
the forfeitures to be to the use of the poor of thesaidparish where
every such Offence shall be Comitted and the other half to the use
of him or then who shall prosecute and Cause such offender or
offenders to be as aforesaid Convicted And the said Justices do
hereby Strictly enjoyn & require the High & petty Constables &
other peace Officers of the said City & Liberty to apprehend all
