Upon an Indictment for Assaulting
of Ann< no role > Wife of Neal Doherty< no role >

Thomas Hobkirk< no role > of Edward Street near Carnaby Market in the County of
Middlesex Staymaker maketh Oath and saith that this Deponent on
Saturday Morning last about ten of the Clock weal to the House where
the said Ann Doherty the prosecutrix above mentioned and her Husband
do lodge at a Grocers in North Audley Street near Grosvenor square and
went to the Door of the Room of their Lodging in the said House and Knockt
and inquired there for Mrs. Doherty by Name but a Woman as this Deponent
verily believes it was answered him from within and said her Husband was not
at Home and that she would not open the Door without he was there [..]
[..] And thereupon this Deponent did thrust into the Key hole of the
Door of the said Room a true Copy of the Notice in Writing hereunto annexed
and then acquainted the person who had so answered him from within as before
mentioned with the Contents and purport of the said Notice and thos he had
put the same into the key hole of the Door of the said Room and them and not before
the said person from within answered to this Deponent that her name was not
Doherty and upon that this Deponant went directly to the Landlord of the said
House and acquainted him with what he had done and the several answers
he had received and that the said Landlord then told this Depnent that no other
persons lodged in the said Room but Doherty and his wife to his knowledge or
belief
