Hal in St. Johns Street in and for the County of Midx:

We the Grand Jury Sworn and Charged to Inquire for out Sovereign
Lord the King for the Body of this County Humbly Present to Your Worships that
not in the standing the Statute of the 13th of His presentMajestysfor Estraining and
Prevnting the excessive increase of Horse Races divers evil minded persons for their
own private Lucte have frequently caused Advertisements to be published in the Publick
Paper for meetings for Horse Races in and about this Metropolis Contrary to the true
intents and meaning of the sd. Salutary Law Particularly at Belsize Park next Hampstead
and tothill Fields Westminster whereby great Numbers of Theives Gamblers loose Idle
and disorderly persons are collected together and the Industrious Manufacturers Artisans
and Labourers of this Metropolis an tempted from their respective employments to the
greatandloss of their time impoverishment of their Familys and annoyance and
disturbance of the Publick Peace. And We the Sd: Jury do further Present to Your [..]
Worships That notwithstanding Places kept for Cock Fighting have by the decision
of the Court of Kings Bench bun deemed Gaming Houses within the true intent
and hearing of that most Excellent Statute of the 33d of Henry the 8th: for Preventing
Gaming and their Keepers fined accordingly Yet divers evil minded Persons have and frequently
do Publish in the Publick Papers Advertisements for Cock fighting which generaly are held at
