Sir
Cavengh the Keeper of new Prison is dead,
[..] I had yesterday a Message from Mr Pelham to
desire you & the other Gentlemen of the Peace will
not proceed to elect a new Keeper till the Duke of
Newcastle's return from Hanover, which will be very
soon. as I remember by an order of Court there
must be a Sessions notice of electing an officer, so
that it cannot be till December Sessions at soonest
I am now in Berkshire towards a journey into
Dorsetshire from whence I shall hardly return to
London till about the 25th. I therefore beg the
favour of you to write to such Gentlemen as you
think proper, that they would not engage themselves
to any person without his Grace the Lord Lieutenants
Recommendation.
