The Voluntary Examination and Confession of
John Busby< no role > Taken before me One of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peace for the said County This
Sixth Day of February in the year One
Thousand Seven Hundred and Fourty Nine.

This Examinant Voluntary Confesseth and Saith That upon Friday
last the Second Day of this Instant February , he this Examinant along
with One who goes by the name of Carroty Jack, (a Short squat fellow
very much filled with the small Pax Wears an old blue Jacket & Canvas
Apron & one known by the name of Little Will (a Slim Lad, wears an old
red Jacket and blue Apron with his Own Hair) went to a Cheese monger's
Shop near St. Margarets Hill in Southwark opposite the Black Horse there
(about Seven O'Clock at night or a little after,) and little Will lifted a
Firken off some Cheese standing by the Door and Carroty Jack look
One Chesshire Cheese and this Examinant look another, which Carrotty
Jack sold, but this Examinant can't tell where. And further this Examt.
voluntarly Confesseth and saith That upon Saturday last in the after
noon Carrotty Jack (in Company with one Known by the name of
Sweep (a little short fellow, wears a blue Waste Coat, and a Cap) and
this Examinant) look one linnen or cotton flower'd given out of a
Window as it hung drying upon a Line in a house in [..]
[..] Church Lane , [..] a Gen Shop about Two Doors up, which
on old Woman as lives in Dirty Lane by Brick Lane , her Two Daughters
Betty and Molly pawn'd for Four shillings; And further this [..]
Examt. confesseth and saith, That last night Carroty Jack, Little
Will, Sweep, This Examinant and another person whose name he
does not know (a little fellow with a Blew le [..] at, and a Handkerchief
about his neck and a Cotton Cap) went up a Lane as [..] turns
up on the right hand as you go from the Horse Ferry in Lambeth
and about Fourty or Fifty Doors up This Examt. look a
Hough of Park from a Butcher's Scall on the Right hand side
of the way which Little will took from this Examt. And this
Examint. further confesseth and saith That about Eleven [..] Clock
the same Night Carroty Jack [..] and this Examt. went
in to Mr. Wainwright Distiller, his shop in Spittle Fields and
had each of them a Dram (and the other Three stood in the
Alley facing the Door) whereupon Carroty Jack and this Examt
went to the other Three (who wailed for them) and it was agreed
upon That the little fellow whose name this Examinant
does
