John Cobbold< no role > the Defend and above named now a prisoner in Newgate
London maketh oath that John page< no role > of Great Yarmouth in the County of
Norfolk Marriner and John Chamberlain< no role > of Great Yarmouth aforesaid
Captam of a Ship are material witnesses for this Deponent on his Tryal upon
the Suggestion where with he now Stands Charged And Saith he is advised and
doth verity believe he Cannot with Safety prowed to make a defence [..]
on his said Tryal without the benefit of the Testimony of the said John Page< no role >
and John Chamberlain< no role > and in Order to the obtaining whereof this Deponent in
or about the begining of February last past Caused a Subpenae to be Issued
out of the Crown office against the said Page and Chamberlain to Compell them
to appear to give Evidence at his this Deponents said Tryal at this present
Sessions On this Deponents behalf and which Subpane this Deponent did
deliver to this Deponents Wife and required her to ger the same properly Served
On the said Page and Chamberlain and accordingly this Deponents said
Wife did by this Deponents directions Travell to Great Yarmouth aforesaid as
She Informed this Deponent And as this Deponent verity believes to be true in
Order to procure the said Subpenae to be Served on the said Page and [..]
Chamberlain Where upon enquiry for the said Page and Chamberlain respectively
this Deponents said Wife as She Informed this Deponent and which
Information this Deponent also Verity believes to be true was informed by the
Wife of the said Page that the said Page was gone on a Voyage to Sunder land and
was from thence to proceed to Rotterdam in Holland and that he was Not expected
home untill the latter end of this present month of March or the begining of
April Next ensuing And this Deponent further Saith that upon this
Deponents said wifes Inquiring after the said Chamberlain as She informed
this Deponent and as this Deponent doth also Verity believe to be true that
She was Informed by the wife of the said Chamberlain at the said
Chamberlains House in Great Yarmouth aforesaid that the said Chamberlain
was also gone on a Voyage to some Port of Holland or France and would
Not return to Yarmouth aforesaid m'less than Six or Seven weeks time
And this Deponent further Saith that for the reasons aforesaid It is
Altogether impossible for him this Deponent to make a proper defence or to
