Joseph Raymand< no role > of the Parish of Pancras Labourer maketh Oath that
he this Deponent was present when John Backer< no role > of the Said Parish of
Pancras Labourer gave Instructions to Mr. William Rafter< no role > the Scrivener
to draw an affidaird wch. he beleives was produced before the Commissioners
for the High Wayes, wch Said affidaird Soe made by the Said Backer was road
unto him the Said Backer by the Said Rafter twice before he Signed or Swore to
the Same in presence of this Dept and in presence of James Kindrick< no role > Roger Madocks< no role >
And Mr. Clancy in wch. Said affidaird to the best of this Depts Memory he the Said
Backer did Settforth & declare that he was well accquainted with the Farm now in
[..] Session of Mr. Spencer for that he the Said [..] in one of the houses
that Belongd to the Said Farm and kept the Signe of the Loud of Bay & was a
Carter and Farmer about forty years and by his Said affidaird did likewise
Settforth to the best of this Depts Memory That Mr. Clancy held moreLand then
the Said Spencer; And this Dept. further maketh Oath that Mr. Clancy Sent this
Deponent along with the Said Roger Madocks< no role > to ask him the Said Backer whether
Or noe he the Said Mr. Clancy desird the Said Backer directly or Indirectly to farswear
himself in any Matter or thing whatsoever, to wch. the said Backer made answer
to this Deponent / Noe and that they were Rogues that Said or reported that
he the said Backer had Said any Such thing or words to that or the like Effect; And
this Dept further maketh Oath he this Dept was Credibbly Informed by Severall persons
who were att Gravell Cart along with this Dept that Some Car to were att work from
Hillburn or other places att the Turnpike the they did noe wak to the Statute
wak in the sd Parish of Pancras as this Dept veryly beleives; And this Dept
further Sayeth that he often heard the Sd Backer complaine of pains in arms & yt [..]
he could not lift up his hands to his head for wch reason he this Dept was often obliged
both to Coller and harnesse his hases for him And the he the Said Backer is Employed
to work att the Said Turnpike Yet he this Dept veryly beleives he is not able to doe
half a days work in a day; And this Dept further Sayeth That he heard the Said Backer
And his wife declare yt he the sd Backer had Seeme Ma [..] att work for ye turnpike
did yt he did not Carry above four or five bushells of gra [..] att time And likewise he
this Dept did hear the Sd Backer declare that the Saweyers did threaten to punish
him the sd Backer with the Pillory wch. made these sd Backer Cry as this Dept often
observed and the Said Backers wife tould this Dept. that her husband was Soe Concernd
And frightned by the Threatnings of the Sd Saweyers that he used to Cry a bedd att
Nights And this Dept. further Sayeth that the Sd Mr. Clancy did not directly or Indirectly
Influence or desire this Dept. to Say or Declare any thing or matter in this his affidaird but
what is Just and Truth
