Wee whose named are Subscribed and hereto affixed Two of his Maties. Justices
of the Peace for the County of Middlesex (one whereof being of the Quop) and Inhabitant
within the limitts of the parish Church of the parish of 5th Giles in the Feilds in the said County
haveing mett together and heard the Complaint of the Churchwardens and overseers of
the Poore of the Said parish of St Giles in the Feilds concerning a male Bastard Child born
in the said parish on the body of Elizabeth Powell< no role > This name instance is in set 2670. Singlewoman on the Sixth day of
December instant which is Baptized Thomas< no role > - and hath oversince the birth
thereof been Chargable to the Said Parish and for liberty to confinne Doe find
upon Examinacon of the said Elizabeth Powell< no role > This name instance is in set 2670. taken upon Cath beforetone of not
as also of Elizabeth Jones< no role > Midwife to her the said Elizabeth Powell< no role > This name instance is in set 2670. in her Travarle
as upon the oaths of Anne Moore< no role > and Anne Settle who were present att the
delivery of the said Elizabeth Powell< no role > This name instance is in set 2670. of the said male Bustard Child & other Circumstances
That Thomas Roberts< no role > of Charles Street near St James Square in the Parish of
St James within the Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex Joyner &
Chaire maker did begett on the body of her the Said Elizabeth Powell< no role > This name instance is in set 2670. the Said
Male Bastard Child, And doe therefore adjudge him the said Thomas Roberts< no role > to
be the reputed Father thereof, And doe Order and appoint him the said Thomas
Roberts
< no role > forthwith upon notice of this our Order to pay to the said Churchwardens and
Overseers of the poor of the Said parish of St Giles in the Feilds the Suine of Forty
Shillings of Lawfull English money towards defraying the charged of the Said parish
for releife of the said child for the first four weekes after the birth thereof & for the
charge of her lying in As alsoe that he the said Thomas Roberts< no role > Shall Weekly
and every weeke afterwards pay unto the Churchwardens and Overseers
of the Poor of the Said Parish of St Giles in the Feilds the Sume of two Shillings
& Six Pence weeke for and towards the releife and maintainance of the Said Male
Bastard child for fee long time as the said child Shall be chargable to the Said parish
And of and from the charge thereof at all times hereafter Shall Save harmless and
indemperifie the said parish of St Giles in the feilds in the said County and forthwith
give Sufficient Securite to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poore of the
Said Parish of St Giles in the Feilds for the Performance of this our Order or appreare
at the next Genall Quarter Sessions of the Peace to be holden for he Said County
then and there to abide such Order as the Justices of the Peace or the More part
of then shall take in that behalfe Given under our hands and Seals the twenty third
day of December in the Tenth year of the Reigne of King William the Third Etc.
