The Examination of William Brewer< no role > of
[..] pish of St. Clements Denes in
the said County there [..] maker, taken before me
[..] Esqr . One of his Majesties his Justices
[..] for the County aforesaid that 30th. day
of December Lune Dui 1696.

Who soon his Oath Saith that on Thursday the 17th day.
of this Month at the desire of James Hassell< no role > , who was
formerly a Servant to the Earle Montague about a yeare [..]
(but whom she Lesnes now he dais not know) he did
under take to Joseph Bickley< no role > who usually Letts out horses
and who had lett two horses to the said James Hassle and
his friend, whom this Examinant does not know to see the
said horses returned to the said Joseph Bickley< no role > and paymt.
made to him for the Cure thereof for soe long time as
they were abroad and till returned, And further canfesseth
that he alsoe tent the said James Hassell< no role > his Boots, being
to give a journey into Northampton there as they Informed
thus Examinant And further deposeth that he saw
the said James Hassell< no role > lasting ht In Shooe Cane [..]
a Taverne, which he believes is the sign of the funn
and there draw he april of wine, with him and another
who was a Stranger to him, where the said Hassell Informed
this Examinant, that he had given notice to Bickley
where that his said horses were a can Jan in Southwarke
& desired this Examinant to pray for the hire, here
not having ready money soe to doe, and accordingly
paid a Guynea in part this day, having paid first and
last seaven and forty Shillings and Six pence fowards
the hire there of
