Order for respiting the
Execution of an Order, made
the 1st. Day of this Sess for,
erecting a Watchhouse at
Cow Crosse until the 2d Day
of next Genl Sess.}

Whereas the First day of this Present Sessions upon reading
the Humble Petition of the Constables Headbors. and other Antient
Inhabitants of the Parish of St. Sepulchres in this County for
the Reasons therein contained Itt is Ordered that the said Constables
and Headbors: should forthwith Erect and Sett up as Watch house near
the Whipping post att Cowcrosse in the said Parish att the Charge
of the Inhabitants of the said Parish and that the same should
be Erected with a Flat roofe and should not Exceed Five Foot in
height above the Surface of the Street there Now upon Motion made
this day unto this Court by Mr. Upton of Council with the said
Inhabitants of the Hill att Cowcrosse aforesaid Alledging that they
had noe Notice of the said Petition and that the said Order was
Obtained by Surprize And that the Erecting a Watch house upon
the said Hill would be Prejudiciall to them in their Trades Itt was
therefore prayed a day might be Appointed for the hearing of the
said matter and that in the mean time the Execution of the said.
Order for Erecting the said Watch house might be staid which
this Court held reasonable And doth Order that the said
Inhabitants of the Hill be heard touching the Premisses the
Second day of the next Generall Sessions of the Peace to be held
for this County att Hicks hall in St. John Street in this County att
Tenn of the Clock in the Forenoon And that the said Constables
Head burroughs and other Antient Inhabitants att whose request
the said Order was Obtained upon Notice of this our Order
doe then Attend their Maties Justices of the Peace for this
County and in the mean time the Execution of the said Order
for Erecting a Watch house is hereby Suspended.
