Contrary so much was I pleased with it
that I went in Company with Messrs..
Champion and Mellish the Sheriffs who
after a very particular and Minute
Inspection Inquiry and Examination were
so well satisfied with the Construction of
the buildings and the Conveniences and
Comforts of the Prisoners that by their
Direction I drew a short Memorandum
expressive of their Opinion of the Cleanliness
and Order of the Prison which I wrote in a
Minute Book which they signed as Sheriffs
of the County of Middlesex
.
The several matters contained in
my Examination as entered in this Report
are true to the best of my knowledge recollection
and belief

I have always locked up Evans - I
never told him he must pay a Guinea a
Week for a Room or any such thing nor that
he might have a Cell with Mattrass and
Sheets
for seven shillings and six pence a
Week or ever had any Conversation of the
sort with him - I never received any
Money of Roberts as stated for Beds - Woodward
receives the Money for Beds when any is
paid none of these Prisoners have ever been
put in any Dark Cell for punishment or
otherwise there is no such thing as a Dungeon
in the Prison. -
The several matters contained in my
