January 1799.

"Straw one Blanket and a very thin Rugg of the
"quantity of a Horse Cloth a Tin Can and Chamber Pot
"We were locked up 23. hours out of the 24. with the
"allowance of Bread and Water till the 9th. of June when
"they had the allowance usually granted by Government
"and about the latter and of the Month were let out
"about 6. hours Per Day during this period Keir,
"Goodluck and Neigle were Confined in Dark Cells J.
"or 6. Weeks at a time, the Situation of Neigle was
"peculiarly bad for near his Cell door was placed a
"Tub, which served the purpose of a Privy to a Gallery
"of Thieves, the stench of which added to the Closeness
"of his Confinement and want of Air reduced him
"to so low a state of health that he was barely able
"to get up and down stairs after his removal, Kier
"who had not long been removed from a similar
"place (having drawn a Guillotine on his Wall)
"was put into it where he Continued till August
"during the former part of their Imprisonment
"they were continually threatened with Fetters, Dark
"Cells and to be knocked down for talking singing
"or looking out of the Grating and if they dare
"mention any think of the Usage they Experienced
"at the Gate, were locked up and not suffered to
"come out of the Cell at all and their relations
"prevented from seeing them; and to play at Ball
"or any thing else by way of exercise while out
"in the Yard was a henious Offence - of the number
"of those who were prevented from seeing Relations
"were Oxlade, Bone and Evans - on the Allowance
"being granted the Governor took upon himself
"to provision them agreeable to his own inclination
