<p n="1668">Reasonable and just that those who have violated <lb></lb>
the law and disturbed the peace and Security of the<lb></lb>
Public should rather be a Charge upon their Friends <lb></lb>
than upon the County Rate raised with so much<lb></lb>
difficulty as it is known to be and taken out of the<lb></lb>
Money levied for the relief of the poor the Allowance<lb></lb>
made to the Prisoners at this time of <rs type="persName" id="LMSMGO55611_n1668-1">Butchers Meat</rs>

many hard Working industrious Housekeepers<lb></lb>
for themselves and their Families and even by<lb></lb>
some who are called upon to Contributed to the <lb></lb>
County Rate a Rate by various new Impositions<lb></lb>
and Charges encreased every Year - It is hardly<lb></lb>
necessary to observe that if the constant Cooking in<lb></lb>
the prison kitchen was lessened a Considerable <lb></lb>
saving of Coals would follow and fewer Servants<lb></lb>
would be engaged in the Kitchen and that if the<lb></lb>
number of Prisoners let out of close confinement<lb></lb>
was more limited three Servants to attend them<lb></lb>
would not be necessary.</p>
<p n="1669">Your Committee however beg leave to <lb></lb>
state it as their Opinion that if it should be<lb></lb>
thought proper by the Court to Continue the whole<lb></lb>
or a part only of the Allowance of Meat now Made<lb></lb>
it is absolutely necessary that the Prison should<lb></lb>
be supplied with Butcher's Meat by contract being <lb></lb>
Convicted it might be as well supplied as it now <lb></lb>
is at a much lower price. -</p>
<p n="1670">Your Committee have thought it necessary<lb></lb>
to take a general view of the sums of Money paid for<lb></lb>
the House of Correction in the last Year (1797.) and have<lb></lb>
accordingly referred to the Account of Mr.. <rs type="persName" id="LMSMGO55611_n1670-1">Joseph<lb></lb>
