April 1796.

£100. Per Annum and that the Propriety of
discharging the said Michael Gamson< no role > from the Office
of Task Master< no role > be submitted to the Determination
of this Court

It appeared to the Committee that the Sum of
£30..15s..9d. remained due to the County for Work done
by the Prisoners and Mr.. Gamson was Ordered
immediately to collect the said Sum and pay the
same into the hands of Mr.. Hinley before the
Commencement of the Session Mr.. Aris informed
the Committee that the Sum of £67..1s..6d was now
in his hands being the produce of the Prisoners
Labourer in picking Oakum to March 19th. 1796. and
that there remained due to the County about £30.
more for Oakum picked by the Male Prisoners
and Spinning done by the Females during the 4
Weeks that he has had the direction of their Labor
by Order of this Committee.

The Court in Estimating the produce of the
Prisoners Labour hitherto will be pleased to take
into their Consideration the Labour which has
been bestowed in digging, trenching, levelling and
other very Laborious but very necessary Work in
the Garden of the New House of Correction it has
been necessary to remove many thousand Loads of
Earth in Order to bring the Garden into its present
Situation and it may now be reasonably presumed
that a very Considerable advantage will be derived
to the County from this part of the Prisoners employment

The Committee feel it [..] incumbent on them to Report
that the discouragement of all Work which necessarily
throws the Prisoners into Society with each other is
highly worthy the Consideration of this Court inasmuch
as in their Opinion the evils arising from such
