Sir

I have duty considered the Papers which you did
me the honor of transmitting in your Letter of the 1st. Instant
and I am to acquaint you that it has been the Rule of this
Department to avoid as much as possible all interference
respecting the interior and municipal provisions of the Militia
Laws I agree in opinion with the Magistrates of the County
of Middlesex that notice ought to be given by the command-
-ing Officers, to the Treasurers of the respective Counties of all

or Discharge and by Promotion from the Ranks in Order
to prevent relief being continued to the Families of the
Men after the right thereto has actually ceased but it appears
to me that a Regulation for that purpose which in its
operation is to supersede the Orders of the Justices of the
Peace given in conformity to the existing Laws can
only with propriety be made by the Authority of
Parliament.

I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedient
humble Servant
W. Windham.

Resolved That the Treasurer be directed to
assist the Clerk of the peace in forming a Letter to
the several Subdivision Meetings of the Deputy
Lieutenants for the purpose of obtaining from them
the necessary Information required by him.

By adjournment same day

Richard Holbrook< no role > Esquire one of His Majesty< no role > 's

Court that several respectable and Independent Gentlemen
