Quere 5Is the Sentence on Convicted Prisoners properly
carried into Execution?

Answer.. The visiting Magistrates do not know of any instance
where proper attention has not been paid to the due Execution of the
Sentence of Convicted Prisoners, but they conceive it would be an
improvement in the general system if the Governor was directed by
the Court to insert with his own hand in the Daily Journal of the
Prison the species of corporal Punishment inflicted and that the
name of the Prisoner and by whose sentence such Corporal
Punishment was inflicted and by what Officer of the prison it was
inflicted.

Quere 6Are the Prisoners usefully and constantly
employed as by the Act 22d. Geo: 3d

AnswerWhat relates to the labour of the Prisoners has been
pretty fully explained in the former part of this Report - It is
much to be wished that a greater proportion of more productive labour
could be introduced, but this must be a work of time and by the
exercise of good judgment attention and perseverance it will be effected
by degrees; but unless there is a constant exertion of labour and
thought in seizing and following up every useful idea and in making
experiments wherever they can be made without Expence to the
County those who have formed sanguine expectations of the Success and
Utility of this institution in so far as relates to labour will be disappointed

Quere 7Are the Books containing the Account of the
Prisoners labour properly kept?

AnswerIt has already been stated that no Books are as yet
opened upon any methodical Plan - The Task master although
apparently very fit for his Duty so far as relates to setting the people to
work and also in teaching them and keeping a plain narrative of his
transactions, is not an Accomptant but from the Memorandums he
has made, a Person skilled in Accounts will without difficulty be
able to place them in a methodical form so as to ascertain what may
be due each Prisoner for work done
