thought the most proper place to make them; but mentioned some
Charges which were afterwards delivered in to Your Committee in
Writing

Mr Blackborow in Answer to the first Charge against
him said he was out of Town and had knowledge of the
transaction.

As to the Second Charge Mr Blackborow admitted it to
be partly true and partly false for finding in his return from
Bath to Town that bailable Commitments did not come to his
Office and being informed that Mr Friquet had agreed to give
Roberts the Keeper of the New Prisons Servant Four pence for
every Bailable Commitment brought before him or to his Office he
resolved not to be out done, and said to the Officer that if he
would bring such Prisoners to him he would allow What Mr.
Friquet allowed or more, or Sixpence, or to that Effect.

That Roberts said nothing in Answer, only, very well
and went away.

Mr Blackborow said he did not know that Mr Friquet
did pay any thing to Roberts buy from this partiality Shewn to him
by Roberts he believes that he might.

That he has no more bailable Commitments now than
before the offer, believes he has not had more than Six these Six
Months.

Mr Friquet declared he never gave any Money to
Roberts.

Thomas Roberts< no role > Servant to the Keeper of New Prison
was called in and Examined, who declared that Mr Blackborow
sent for him about Christmas last, when he was called in and
Mr Blackborow complained he had not so many Copies of Commitments
as usual at his Office. That Witness replied he did not direct
them any where. That Mr Blackbow said he was informed that
he received Money from Mr Friquet. That Witness said he never
