extent of their Power were at considerable difficulty in what
manner to conduct themselves in the execution of their Office
agreeable to Law Resolved that the Broad Street lately printed
containing an Abstract of the various Laws for the better ordering
of Society be sent to each of the Constables of Clerkenwell .

By Adjournment same day.

The following state of the Prisons from the Keepers of
New Prison and the House of Correction at Clerkenwell was laid
before the Court and read in the presence of the Grand Jury pursuance
to the Act of Parliament lately made and provided and was in the
following Words Vizt.


Middlesex
To wit
At the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the
County of Middlesex holden at the Session House on
Clerkenwell Green in and for the said County this 26th
day of October in the year of our Lord one Thousand
Seven Hundred and Eighty nine, the Certificate of
Samuel Newport< no role > in pursuance of the Statute in this
Case made and provided respecting the Gaol of New
Prison in the Parish of Saint James Clerkenwell in the
County of Middlesex .

22 & 23 C2. C.20 Enacts that Felons
and debtors shall be kept seperate
under Penalties upon the Sheriff or
Gaoler} No Debtors

24 G: 2. C 40 Enacts


1. That no Gaoler shall sell
lend use give away or suffer
spirituous Liquors within any Gaol
under a Penalty
No Spirituous Liquors is suffered


2.. Copy of the Clause last
mentioned as also of two other Clauses
respecting the same shall be hung
up in the Gaol under a Penalty
a Copy of the Clauses are hung
up in the Lodge.
