making in the whole the Sum of£201..10..-

That upon the Examination of Mr. Newport Keeper of New Prison in respect
to the Orders under which the said Work had been done at his Goal it
appeared that some part thereof had, under particular circumstances of
Emergency been ordered by himself and other parts under the Order of
Sir George Booth< no role > and Mr. Blackborow Magistrates residing in the
Vicinity of the Prison .

That upon the Examination of Mr Williamson the Smith to
appeared that he had a written Order for some part of the Work under the
Hands of Sir George Booth< no role > and Mr Blackborow that the rest had been
done under applications made to him by the Servants of the Goal and
that much of the Work had been of so necessary a kind that it had
been performed at night

That upon the Examination of Mr Wood the Carpenter it
appeared that he had not any written Orders but had not done any Work
except under directions from Sir George Booth< no role > and Mr Blackborow or [..]

That upon the Examination of Mr. Rogers the County
Surveyor it appeared that he could not tell what specific orders he might
have given but that he had never given any Orders for Work to be done but
in Cases of the utmost necessity

And it appearing to your Committee by an Order of Court
made at the General Quarter Session of the Peace holden for this County
in the month of April 1780 that neither the Keeper of New Prison the
Governor of the House of Correction at Clerkenwell or the House Keeper at
Hicks Hall ought to give Orders for any Repair to be done to the Buildings
under their respective care unless in cases of most urgent necessity and
then only for what shall come within the Expence of Twenty shillings and
even that in no more than one instance between the County day of One
Session and the County day of the next immediate ensuing Session
It is the Opinion of this Committee that neither the Keeper of New
Prison the Governor of the House of Correction at Clerkenwell or the
House Keeper at Hicks Hall ought to give Orders for any emendations
