parties so said to be wandering abroad and having no place of<lb></lb>
habitation wandering abroad and destitute of habitation</p>
<p n="1623">It appears likewise to the Committee that out of the<lb></lb>
Sum of £56..2..6 abovementioned the sum of Seventeen Pounds and five<lb></lb>
Shillings hath been paid pursuant to the orders are warrants of the<lb></lb>
said two Justices for the apprehending of Thirty one persons who<lb></lb>
although called in the said orders Rouges and Vagabonds have neither<lb></lb>
been Committed passed our any other manner dealt with according to<lb></lb>
law</p>
<p n="1624">It appears to the Committee also that by an Act of<lb></lb>
Parliament made and passed in the Seventeenth year of the Reign of<lb></lb>
King George the Second "that where any Rogues or Vagabonds apprehended<lb></lb>
"by any Constable or other person in the same Act mentioned shall be<lb></lb>
"brought before a Justice he shall inform himself by the Examination<lb></lb>
"upon Oath of the person apprehended or of any other person of the<lb></lb>
"Condition and Circumstances of the person so apprehended and of the<lb></lb>
"parish or place where he or she was last legally settled the substance<lb></lb>
"of which shall be put into Writing and be signed by the Person or<lb></lb>
"persons so Examined and the Justice shall likewise sign the<lb></lb>
"same and transmit it to the next Sessions of the peace and shall<lb></lb>
"order such person so apprehended to be publickly whipped or to be<lb></lb>
"Sent to the House of Correction till the next Session or for a less time<lb></lb>
"and after such whipping or Confinement such Justice may by a pass<lb></lb>
"under hand and Seal cause such person to be conveyed to the place<lb></lb>
"of their last legal Settlement and by the said act of Parliament it<lb></lb>
"further appears that the Justice shall make a duplicate of the pass<lb></lb>
"and Examination and Sign the same and shall afterwards commit<lb></lb>
"the duplicate of the pass annexed to the Examination to the next<lb></lb>
"Sessions there to be filed and kept on Record and shall annex the<lb></lb>
"duplicate of the Examination to the pass and send it with the<lb></lb>
"same and the said pass Examination and Duplicates thereof<lb></lb>
"shall and may be read in any Court of Record as Evidence"<lb></lb>
