The Presentment of the Grand Inquest<lb></lb>

sworn and charged to Inquire<lb></lb>
for the Lord the King for the Body of the said County at the<lb></lb>
General Quarter Session of the Peace holden for the County<lb></lb>
aforesaid at Hicks Hall in Saint <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55604_geo675">John Street</rs>

County on Monday the Seventh Day of July 1760 in the<lb></lb>
thirty forth year of the Reign of King George the Second<lb></lb>
over Great Britain Etc Vizt.</p>
<p n="477">We having on or taken a View of the State and Condition of the<lb></lb>
two Goals or Prisons called the <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55604_geo676">New Prison</rs>

at <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55604_geo678">Clerkenwell</rs>

in this County Do find and present that the said Goals<lb></lb>
or prisons respectively are out of Repair in sundry Respects and<lb></lb>
that several Reparations are necessary to be forthwith made therein<lb></lb>
for the support of the Building and Security of the Prisoners And<lb></lb>
we further present that the under mentioned Buildings and<lb></lb>
Alterations are highly necessary and proper to be made in the<lb></lb>
said Prisons for the safe and well Keeping of the Men Prisoners<lb></lb>
therein and will be a great Improvement thereto, and a great Honour<lb></lb>
as well as use and benefit to this County as follows</p>

in the House of Correction}</note>
To take down the Brickwall which now seperates the<lb></lb>
Keeper's Garden from the Yard where the Prisoners are<lb></lb>
promiscuosly kept together and remove the same about Four<lb></lb>
Feet into the said Yard so that the men and Women prisoners<lb></lb>
may be kept seperate from each other</p>
<p n="479">Also that the Work Room in the said Prison may be<lb></lb>
kept seperated by a Wall or Partition And that the Gallery<lb></lb>
over the said Workroom be divided so that the Men and<lb></lb>
Women prisoners may be intirely kept assunder.</p>
<p n="480">That the Garden now Occupied by the Keeper of<lb></lb>

be divided by a Wall cross the same And one<lb></lb>
part thereof appropriated to the use of the Keeper of the House<lb></lb>
of Correction And also that there be a Room and other<lb></lb>
necessary Conveniences made for the Women in<lb></lb>
the said Prison.</p>
