Governor and Company of the Bank of
England
against

John Acton< no role > of Swithins Lane London Esquire the Sollicitor
for the Governor and Company of the Bank of England maketh Oath
and saith That Mathew Bryan< no role > Esquire an eminent Merchant at
Bruges in Flanders was the means of detecting the Forgery
of sundry Notes purporting to be the Notes of the said Governor
and Company called Bank Notes, for Foring of which Notes
the Prisoner Joseph Dunbar< no role > This name instance is in set 1403. This set is in the group(s): GarrowsClients . now stands charged And this
Deponent further saith that by the Orders of the Governor and
Directors of the Bank this Deponent has been at Bruges for the
purpose of Investigating the business and Saith he received from
the hands of the said Mathew Bryan< no role > the Note for Forging
which the prisoner now stands Indicted, and also sundry other
Forged Notes from the hands of the Magistrates there and this
Deponent further saith that he left Bruges on Saturday the third
day of April Instant when the said Mathew Bryan< no role > promised
to be in London in order to give Evidence against the said Joseph
Dunbar

April, but he is not yet Arcived And this Deponent saith that he
verily believes the said Mathew Bryan< no role > is detained by contrary
winds, or by some other unavoidable accident, prevented from
being in London before this time according to his promise And
this Deponent further saith that the said Mathew Bryan< no role > is a
material and absolutely necessary Witness on the part of the
prosecution and without whose Testimony the Bank cannot
safely proceed to Trial against the prisoner And Lastly
this Deponent saith that he has no doubt of the said Mathew
