The King agt. Samuel Roberts< no role >
On Prosecutions for High Treason

Samuel Roberts< no role > the above Defendant Marketh Oath that
John Baines< no role > Lodging No. 3 in the Maze Southwark Felmonger is
a Material Witness for this Deponent on ye above Prosecutions
and without whose Testimony this Deponent Cannot Safely
Proseed to Tryall And saith that he has Caused Inquiry to be
made by this Deponents Wife and one Rowland Ridgeley< no role > after
the said John Baines< no role > for at least ten Days last Past at ye said
John Baines< no role > said Place of Abode and other Places where it was
most likely to Meet with him In Order to have him here this
session as a Witness for him this Deponent on his Tryalls
for ye above Offences but Notwithstanding his utmost
Endeavours has not been able to meet with him the sd. John
or know where he was gave to untill Fryday last when he was
Informed by his said Wife and which Information this Deponent
believes to be true that ye sd. John Baines< no role > was Gone to
Shewsbery and other Places in Shropshire and that he was
Expected back in about a Fortnight And saith that he verily
Believes (and has us Doubt but) that the shall be able to have
the said John here at ye next Session and will use his
utmost Endeavours for that Purpose if this Honourable
Court will postpone the Tryalls till then
