The Information of Mr. Abraham Portal< no role >
taken before me this 11th. day of
Febry 1763

Who being on Oath says that on Monday last about 8 oClock in
the Evening a Person now present who calls himself James
Freake< no role > came into this Informant's Shop and delivered unto him
a Letter now produced, demanding One hundred pounds and
on refusal Threating to put him to Death, says that he took an
Opportunity of running up Stairs into his Kitchin and shut the
door, says that the Person who delivered the Letter as aforesaid
followed him up Stairs and attempted to force the said Kitchin
door, which this Informt. preventing by the assistance of his
Maid, the said Person went away, says that before he this
Informt. went up Stairs he told the Person it was impossible
to give him so large a Sum for that he had it not says the
said Person replied, he wou'd take nothing less than Thirty
and that he was prepared
