Haveing Lived about 35 years in the Parish of St.
Mich Woodstreet , and for 33 years payed to the uttermost of
all Taxes and hath held all Offices in the said Ward
and parish, but of late hath been reduced low, and not of
ability to pay Taxes, And therefore hath aplyed himself
to the Church Wardens & Overseers of the Said parish for four
Years last past, to be Eased of the Poors Tax, but they
have refused to Ease me, And therefore I have been
Forsed to make my Apeale to this Honble: Bench,
for Relief, my Trade being out of fashion, and
not having any Imployment for my own hands
for Fourteen Years last past as all Gold Smith in London
can testifie to the truth therof, And therefore
Prayeth to be Dischargd thereof
or that he may not be charged above one Penney ye. Week
that being the outmost that he ought to pay according to his
ability, my house being Eight Pounds Teen Shitt Panum
and I am Taxed Thirteen Shillings ye. year beside an over
Rate that will come to half as much & will amount to,
two Shitt and three pence in the pound No large
houses in the parish being Taxed neare so much.

That, no Churchwarden of any Parish Shall presume to
Settle above Nine pence, in the Pound for the Poor,
without any Over-rate or Arrear, or Assessment
