AN INQUISITION indented, taken for our sovereign Lord the King, at The Parish
of Saint Luke Chelsea in the County of
Middlesex , the Twenty Eighth Day of October in the Twenty sixth Year of the Reign of
our sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Phillips< no role >
one of the Coroners of our said Lord the King for the said County, on View of the Body of
John Serogell then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of

good and lawful Men of the said County, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged to inquire, for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what Means, the
said John Serogell came to his
Death, do, upon their Oath, say, That the said John Serogell on the Twenty seventh Day of
October in the Year aforesaid being at work as Labourer in the Kings Highway in the Parish
and County aforesaid It so happened That he the said John Serogell then and there accidentally
casually and by Misfortune fell down And the near Wheel of a Car drawn by Two Horses and
Leaded with Dung then and there passed upon and over theBodyHead and neck of him the said John Serogell< no role >
By Means whereof he the said John Serogell then and there received divers Mortal Bruises in
and upon the Head and Neck of him the said John Serogell of which said Mortal Burises he
the said John Serogell then and there died And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do
say that the said John Serogell in manner and by the means aforesaid accidentally, casually
and by misfortune came to his Death And that the nearWheelof the said Cart was the Cause
of the Death of the said John Serogell and is of the Value of One Shilling and the Property and
in the Possession of James Shaler< no role > of Little Chelsea in the Parish of Kensington in the said County
Gardener or of his assigns

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said Benjamin Virtue< no role >
the Foreman of the said Jurors, on the Behalf of himself and the Rest of his said Fellows, in
their Presence, have, to this Inquisition, set their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year first
above written.
