AN INQUISITION Indented, Taken for our Sovereign Lord the King, at The Parish
of Saint Mary Matfellon otherwise Whitechapell in the County of
Middlesex , the Twentieth Day of April in the Twenty second Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Phillips< no role >
one of the Coroners of our said Lord the King for the said County, on View of the Body of
Francis Fort< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of
Thomas Peach< no role > , William Jeenes< no role > , Samuel Harwood< no role > , William Hatchman< no role > , John Reynolds< no role >
Joseph Walker< no role > , Stephen White< no role > , Henry Pettit< no role > , William Plimpton< no role > , Thomas Preston< no role > , Michael

good and lawful Men of the said County, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged to inquire, for our said Lord the King, when, how and by what Means, the
said Francis Fort< no role > came to his
Death, Do, upon their Oath, say, That John Doyle< no role > late of the Hamlet of Ratcliff in the Parish
of Saint Dunstan Stebunheath otherwise Stepney in the County aforesaid Mariner not having
the Fear of God before his Eyes but being moved and seduced by the Instigation of the Devil on
the Twenty Eighth Day of March in the Year aforesaid with Force and Arms at the Hamlet
aforesaid in the Parish and County aforesaid in and upon the said Francis Fort< no role > in the peace of
God and of our said Lord the King then and there being feloniously wilfully and of his malice,
aforethought did make an assault And That the said John Doyle< no role > with a certain Clasp Knife
made of Iron and Steel of the value of Six pence which he the said John Doyle< no role > then and,
there had and held in his Right Hand him the said Francis Fort< no role > in and upon the Right Breast
of him the said Francis Fort< no role > then and there feloniously wilfully and of his malice aforethought

[..] in the County of aforesaid And Also at the said Parish of Saint Mary Matfellon
otherwise White Chappell in the said County (to Wit) in a certain Hospital there situate called The
London Hospital from the said Twenty Eighth Day of March in the Year aforesaid untill the Seventeenth
Day of april in the same year did languish and languishing did live on which said Seventeenth Day
of april in the year aforesaid in the Hospital aforesaid at the said Parish of Saint Mary Matfellon
otherwise White Chappell in the County aforesaid He the said Francis Fort< no role > of the mortal Wound aforesaid
Did DieAnd so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid Do say That the said John Doyle< no role > him
the said Francis Fort< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid feloniously Wilfully and of his malice aforethought
Did kill and murder against the Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said Thomas Peach< no role >
the Foreman of the said Jurors, on the Behalf of himself and the Rest of his said Fellows, in
their Presence, have, to this Inquisition, set their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year first
above written.
