A INQUISITION Indented, Taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the Parish of
Saint Mary Matfellon otherwise White Chapell in the County of
Middlesex , the ninth Day of October in the Twenty first Year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third , by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France, and
Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Phillips< no role >
one of the Coroners of our said Lord the King for the said County, on View of the Body of
Joseph Driver< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of
James Barratt< no role > William Clarkson< no role > John Clark< no role > Richard Lanceman< no role > William frembly< no role > William Glazbrook
Francis Chansac< no role > John Greenwood< no role > Peter Renvoize< no role > William Carter< no role > Thomas Sanders< no role > Thomas Mead< no role > Samuel
Bishop Charles Mann< no role > Thomas Preston< no role > Joseph Forster< no role > and George Ditcham< no role >
good and lawful Men of the said County, duly chosen, and who being then and there duly
sworn and charged to inquire, for our said Lord the King, when, how, and by what Means, the
said Joseph Driver< no role > came to his
Death, Do, upon their Oath, say, That Robert Evans< no role > late of the Parish of Saint Botolph Aldgate
in the City of London Labourer not having the fear of God before his Eyes but being moved and seduced by the
Instigation of the Devil on the thirtieth Day of September in the year aforesaid with force and Arms at the Parish last
aforesaid in and upon the said Joseph Driver< no role > in the Peace of God and of our said Lord the King then and there being feloniously
Wilfully and of his Malice aforethought Did make an Assault and That the said Robert Evans< no role > with a certain wooden staff
called a Watchmans staff which he the said Robert Evans< no role > then and there had and held in both his hands him the said Joseph
Driver in and upon the few part of the Head of him the said Joseph Driver< no role > then and there feloniously wilfully and of his Malice
aforethought did strike and Beat and that the said Robert Evans< no role > did then and there give unto him the said Joseph Driver< no role >
in and upon the said few part of the Head of him the said Joseph Driver< no role > with the wooden Staff aforesaid One Mortal Fracture
through the skull of him the said Joseph Driver< no role > Of which said Mortal Fracture he the said Joseph Driver< no role > from the said
thirtieth Day of September in the Year aforesaid to the sixth Day of October in the same Year at the Parish last
Aforesaid in the said City of London And also at the said Parish of Saint Mary Matfellon otherwise White Chapell in
the County of Middlesex aforesaid to Wit in the London Hospital there situate did Languish and Languishing Did
Live on which said sixth Day of October in the Year aforesaid he the said Joseph Driver< no role > in the London Hospital
aforesaid at the said Parish of Saint Mary Matfellon otherwise White Chapell in the County aforesaid Of the Mortal
Fracture aforesaid Did Die and so that the jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid Do say that the said Robert
Evans him the said Joseph Driver< no role > in manner and by the Means aforesaid feloniously Wilfully and of his Malice
aforethought Did Kill and Murder against the Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity

IN WITNESS whereof, as well the said Coroner as the said James Barratt< no role >
the Foreman of the said Jurors, on the Behalf of himself and the Rest of his said Fellows, in
their Presence, have, to this Inquisition, set their Hands and Seals, the Day and Year first
above written.
