An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish of Saint Olave
within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the third day of August in the thirty eighth
year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas

< no role > , good and lawful men of the Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid who being now here
duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner
the said female infant child came to its death say upon their oath that A certain woman whose
name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown being big with a certain female child the same female
child on the thirty first day of July in the year aforesaid at the parish aforesaid within the Borough of
Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid alone and secretly from her body by the Providence of God did
being forth alive and that a certain person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid unknown not having the
fear of God before her his or their Eyes but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil
on the same day and year last aforesaid with force and arms at the parish last aforesaid in the Borough
and County aforesaid in and upon the said female Child in the peace of God and our said Lord the King
then and thew being feloniously wilfully and of her his or their malice aforethought did make an assault The
that the said person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown then and there well knowing
that the Navel string of the said female child should and ought to be tied and fastened
immediately after its birth in order to preserve its life but feloniously wilfully and of her his or their
malice aforethought contriving and intending the Death of the said female Child did then and
there feloniously wilfully and of her his or their malice aforethought neglect refuse and omit to tye
and fasten the Navel string of the said female Child by reason whereof divers large quantities
of blood did then and there flow and issue forth from and out of the body of the said
female child and the said female child by reason and means thereof then and there
became and was mortally sick and diseased in its body and of such mortal sickness and
disease the said female Child did then and there die - And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their
oath aforesaid do say that the said person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown the said
female Child in manner and by the means aforesaid feloniously wilfully and of her his or their
malice aforethought did kill and Murder against the peace of our said Lord the King his
Crown and dignity And that the said person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown
at the time of comitting the felony and murder aforesaid in manner and form aforesaid had
no goods or Chattels Lanes or Tenements within the Borough of Southwark in the County aforesaid
or elsewere to the knowledge of the said Jurors In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner
as the said Jurors to this Inquisition have set their hands and seals the day year and place
first abovewritten
